About Us
Have you ever wondered where your story really begins? The Mesa County Genealogical Society (MCGS) is all about uncovering those hidden chapters of your family’s past — and discovering the people, places, and adventures that led to you. Founded here in Grand Junction, Colorado back in March 1980, MCGS is a nonprofit dedicated to making genealogy exciting, accessible, and social. Whether you’re just starting to explore your roots or you’re already deep in the archives, this is the place to connect, learn, and grow.
Our members aren’t just local — we trace family stories across the country and around the world. From Colorado mining towns and Wisconsin farms to the rolling hills of Ireland and the mountains of Austria, every thread in your family line tells a story worth exploring. You don’t need to be a professional historian to dive in — just a curiosity about where you came from and a desire to learn.
