Early Birth Newspaper Index

At some point in the history of the Mesa County Genealogical Society, a person or persons unknown compiled a large batch of index cards that recorded the early birth notices from some of the early newspapers(births from 1883 - 1900). These cards were discovered in 2022 when the MCGS Library was re-organized. The information from those cards has been compiled into a searchable database.

Actual newspapers should be reviewed for any additional information.

**Note**: Although the index cards noted only the paternal initial (or name), most newspaper notices indicate "Mr. & Mrs.". Very few indicated child's name, either on the index card or in the birth notice.

Newspaper abbreviations - GJN:Grand Junction News, DS: Daily Sentinel, WS: Weekly Sentinel; PV: Plateau Valley News, CO, GV: unknown newspapers
